McTyeire Fireside Chat: “Approaching Don Quixote”

Miguel de Cervantes-聙聶s Don Quixote, published in two parts in 1605 and 1615, is the consensus choice as -聙聹the best novel ever.-聙聺 The talk will focus on how this Spanish masterpiece has maintained the interest of readers and scholars for four hundred years. In a type of literary paradox, Cervantes brings in the past as a means of pointing toward the future, and his narrative is not only the story of an anachronistic knight errant and his winsome squire, but also the story of its own composition. Cervantes-聙聶s comic vision is profound as well as profoundly entertaining.
